Class leading - Full-size SUV
The 2007 Ford Expedition gets longer this year, its 14.7 inches longer then the last years Expedition. It is called Expedition EL (extended length), which now receives 21 per cent extra cargo space. The 4-door full-size SUV, accommodates 9-passenger sport-utility available in 6 trims; the Expedition XLT, XLT EL, Eddie Bauer, Eddie Bauer EL, the Expedition Limited and Limited EL.

It is an ideal vehicle for a family day out, to stuff in anything that comes your way. The new multi-link rear suspension adds up more leg space for the third row. The redesigned Expedition has cozy interiors, roomy stowage area and excellent towing capacity. Introduced as a 1997 model it was upgraded for the 2003 model year. The fascia, dash and transmission get the retouch.

In 2001 Expedition sales scaled an all time 1 million. It also stood its ground, earning top frontal driver and passenger safety ratings in NHTSA’s crash tests for three consecutive years.

It has a basic warranty of 36 months/36000 miles. Competition in its segment comprises the Nissan Pathfinder, the Toyota Sequoia, the GMC Yukon, the Lincoln Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade EXT.
Powerful V8 and modern 6-speed AT
 
The Expedition derives power from a 5.4-liter (L) V8 that delivers 300 horsepower (hp) at 5,000 rpm and 365 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque at 3,750 rpm.

It has an Electronic Throttle Control and a new 6-speed Automatic transmission (AT) that renders smooth, seamless shifts.

All trims can be availed with either a two- wheel drive or a four-wheel drive. It has a towing capacity of 9,000 lbs.

The two-wheel drive renders an EPA estimated fuel economy of 14/19 mpg (city/highway).
 
Redesigned fascia for aggressive stance
The fascia gets a lift for 2007, the grille, headlights, bumper and the fog lights are redesigned for more aggressive styling. The six-spoke alloy wheel replaces last year’s five-spoke and the Limited edition gets a black color grille. The Expedition has an imposing presence courtesy of the raised mid - section of its sloping hood.

Gigantic 17-inch wheels along with large headlamps, taillamps, mirrors, door handles and bumpers that integrate into the overall design enhance its well planted – confident stance.

Standard exterior features on the Expedition include; a center high-mounted LED stoplight on the rear of the vehicle, fog lamps, two tone color taillamps, a liftgate with flip up glass, a luggage rack, black with raised side rails, a solar tinted windshield and front door windows and an underbody mounted full size spare tire.
 
Versatile – roomy interiors
 
The Ford Expedition’s interiors are luxurious, warm and inviting. It has a new appealing easy- to- decipher instrumental panel, even the steering wheel gets a retouch. The redesigned steering wheel’s spokes are in H formation and provides easy access to nested controls. The revised gauge is easier to read and the dash layout is spectacular.

The second-row conveniently flips and folds out of the way, allowing easy access to the third row. The third row gets an optional auto fold.

It features versatile storage options. Second-and-third row seats fold down to create 110.5 cubic feet of cargo space (one among the largest in its class).

The all independent multi-link rear suspension occupies less space and adds more third row cabin space.

Standard interior features on the 2007 Ford Expedition include; power door locks, power windows with one touch-down on the drivers side, speed control, a color-keyed cloth with auxiliary visors, cup holders, passenger assist handles, warning lights for the door, power points in the instrument panel and rear cargo area (optional on the base) and power points in the floor console (one in the front, one in the second row), one in passenger-side footwell and one in the rear cargo area.
 
Refined V8 – power packed performance
The Ford Expedition sets the standard in its segment with its impressive acceleration, and performance.

Its V8 is the epitome of refinement. The new 6-speed automatic is smooth and is always in the right gear. A fully independent suspension and rack and pinion steering system is geared towards accommodating balance and handling on account of its height.

Despite feeling like a big SUV, the Expedition’s steering is responsive and body roll is well reined in around turns.

Though it’s not a perfect off-road SUV, still it offers excellent cushy driving experience on the highways and country roads.
 
Double five-star ratings from NHTSA
The Expedition bagged double five-star ratings in front crash tests conducted by the NHTSA.Four-wheel antilock disc brakes with Electronic BrakeAssist and Brakeforce Distribution are a standard feature.

AdvanceTrac Stability Control System with Roll Stability Control for optimal safety in rollover accidents is an optional feature; as are the Tire-pressure Monitor System and side- head-impact protection for first/second-row passengers

Standard safety features include; color-keyed lap/shoulder belts with an adjustable shoulder harness, a personal safety system which includes a safety belt pretensioner, dual-stage front airbags and a front crash severity sensor. The 2007 Ford Expedition also offers side intrusion door beams and a remote keyless entry.
